Appeal Alert: Help the communities destroyed by the tsunamis
The Sewalanka Foundation Emergency Intervention and Rehabilitation Appeal was launched on 27 December 2004 to assist the people affected by the tsunami in Sri Lanka. The multiple tsunamis that hit the Sri Lankan coast line on 26 December 2004 have destroyed hundreds of villages, killed over 30,000 people and displaced over 2.5 million people. This is the worst natural disaster that the people of Sri Lanka have ever faced.
Sewalanka Foundation has offices in all the coastal districts affected by the tsunami and is receiving urgent requests from survivors. Those that have survived are now in urgent need of basic supplies like cooked food, drinking water, dry rations and cooking utensils. As time moves on the fund will be utilised for rebuilding schools and other similar rehabilitation projects.
As result of the money received, we have quickly responded to provide and/or transport vital emergency items to those displaced people and communities in need. We are also able to use a small amount (up to 15% of total) for the administrative costs associated with responding to this appeal. Please download the Appeal Reconciliation PDF which is updated often to see how the money received so far has been spent.
