Southpoint: from Ruin to Rejuvenation was an open, international ideas competition to explore issues of universal design and historic rejuvenation in developing a visual / performing arts center on Roosevelt Island.
Over forty jury selected entries, including winners and honorable mentions, have been documented in a full-color 80-page publication, which also captures thoughts from the organizers and jurors. A full listing of the teams selected for exhibition is also featured. Appropriate for all audiences, the catalog is intended to breakdown the wall between different competition phases- program organization/inception, design/submission, and judging.
The competition was hosted by the Emerging NY Architects Committee, American Institute of Architects New York Chapter, in cooperation with the Roosevelt Island Visual Arts Association and Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital. Sponsors included AIA New York State, Electronics Design Group, Gensler, The Graham Foundation, Propylaea, The Rubin Family Foundation, and Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation.
