In order to energize the dialogue of the future of the South Street Seaport district in the wake of the closing of the Fulton Fish Market, the Emerging New York York of the AIA New York Chapter focused their third biennial ideas competition in collaboration with the Seamen’s Church Institute on this area. South Street Seaport: Re-envisioning the Urban Edge presents full-color images of over 40 innovative and fascinating selected entries, chosen from a highly international group of submissions. The publication, edited by Anne Leonhardt, also features contextual essays by noted authors Michael Sorkin and Ann L. Buttenwieser and jury comments. This book is of interest to students, planners, and anyone interested in the South Street Searport area and the reinvention of historic areas in the wake of large-scale change.
