Ages 13 and up- Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical is based loosely on Puccini's opera La Bohème. It follows a year in the lives of friends living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village while AIDS and both its physical and emotional complications pervade their lives. This adaptation has been carefully done, retains the dramatic intent of the groundbreaking rock musical, and consists of only minimal changes to language and the removal of one song from the Broadway production. Parents: please be aware that, along with the popular music from this show, the subject matter contains topics including AIDS, homosexuality and drug abuse. There will be two casts. Cast size is maximum 30 performers. Registration is first come first serve. You may register for the rehearsal day of your preference. There are 8 lead roles and 14 featured roles and cameos. Songs which were performed as solos and duets in the Broadway production will be performed as full cast production numbers in our show. This is not a strong dance show. Auditions will take place on the first rehearsal. Please be prepared to sing 16 bars of any song from musical theater repertoire. Upbeat, contemporary songs are preferable. Bring sheet music. If you would like to audition, but you do not have sheet music or you do not know which song to sing, please come to the audition anyway. We will work with you. There will also be a short dance audition so that we can see how you move, so wear shoes and loose clothes. We will teach you the dance combination at the audition. Jazz shoes or sneakers are acceptable footwear. No Uggs or other boots, please. Tuition: $600 Dress rehearsals and performances take place at Riverspace in Nyack, NY. All other rehearsals take place in our studios at 142 Main St. Nyack.
