THE MASTERS CLASS: - Performance Troupe
Director/Instructor: Lisa Wolpe and Edgar Landa
This class is limited to 12 participants, and is recommended for advanced actors, male or female, who wish to become experienced with playing Shakespeare in front of an audience. Each participant will work with Lisa and Edgar for five weeks on a scene from Shakespeare chosen by the instructors, during evenings and weekends for a total of 12 hours of rehearsals negotiated around your schedule Nov.10 - Dec. 19th. This particular opportunity for the Performance Troupe is enhanced by training and direction by Fight Master Edgar Landa, who will choreograph several opportunities for weapons and hand-to-hand combat.

Lisa Wolpe is an actress, director, teacher and producer. She is the Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Women's Shakespeare Company, an award-winning all-female, multi-cultural theater company that she founded in 1993. L.A. Magazine has called seeing the LAWSC "one of the ten coolest things to do in Los Angeles". Lisa and her company have been featured on PBS, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and London's International News. Lisa has performed 20 leading male roles in the Shakespeare canon, and is internationally considered a Master Teacher of the Bard's work. Her recent performance as Shylock earned her a nomination as the finest leading actress in Los Angeles, and she has won numerous awards for her acting, directing and producing work. Other credits include Berkeley Repertory Theater, Shakespeare & Company, Boston Center for the Arts, Arizona Theater Company, San Diego Repertory Company, Boston Theater Works, California Shakespeare Festival, Southwest Shakespeare, Sedona Shakespeare, and various films and television shows. She has taught and directed Shakespeare at Boston University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Emerson College, American Conservatory Theater, University of Southern California, Cal Poly Pomona, and other schools, and been an invited guest speaker at over thirty universities. An accomplished playwright, she created an award-winning clown version of Parzival, as well as an adaptation of Macbeth for three-actorsn which toured London and the Edinburgh Festival, and was also produced at Unseam'd Shakespeare Co. in Philadelphia in 2008.
Edgar Landa is the Managing Director of Son of Semele Ensemble that was profiled in the December 2004 issue of American Theatre Magazine. He has also acted in, directed and produced many SOSE shows and serves on the Board of Directors. Edgar is also a member of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox , MA where he serves on the faculty as a Fight and Text instructor and has worked extensively in their nationally recognized education programs. He has led numerous workshops in theatre, Shakespeare, and Fight with students at middle and senior high schools around the country and has taught in the theatre departments of Chapman University and Cal Arts. As a director Edgar most recently directed the world premieres of King Cat Calico Finally Flies Free! by Aaron Henne and Preludes & Fugues by John Glore; guest-directed Chavez Ravine, The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow, Titus Andronicus and Marisol at Cal State University Long Beach; and guest-directed the premiere of La Ofrenda at Cal State University Los Angeles.
