This half day seminar walks participants through the complicated, multi-leveled fair use principle.

What does fair use mean under U.S. copyright law? Why is the concept of fair use so misunderstood? Does it exist in other countries? How have court cases interpreted fair use? When can fair use be applied to my situations? Does fair use apply to digital media?

Anyone involved in the creation or use of copyright protected materials, including publishers, photographers, writers, web site and CD-ROM developers, those in museums, archives, libraries, educational institutions and governments are encouraged to attend. Up-to-date information including Supreme Court interpetations of fair use, as well as the Napster case, will be discussed.
