We will meet indoors at the Faculty Club on the UC Berkeley Campus. Maybeck, the turn-of-the-last-century arts and crafts architect of the Faculty Club was inspired by the concept of seeing nature outside, by having few distractions indoors and by using indigenous materials and celebrating nature. So bring your pencils, pens and sketch pad and we will do quick sketches in the morning.
We can sketch interior spaces (like Van Gogh’s loose and lively interiors) or choose to “frame” nature looking through the windows. In the afternoon we will develop one of the sketches into a finished drawing, and working on larger paper. Joan will demonstrate how to layout an “interior” and we will view and critique our works of art. The Club offers an enjoyable lunch (Dutch) for us and we can enjoy a refreshing drink at the late afternoon critique.
