With Michael Ellis Even though the enormous influx of people to California during and since the Gold Rush greatly affected the abundance of all animals, we are fortunate to still have a great diversity of mammals in Marin County especially in the Point Reyes National Seashore. From insectivores to rodents, chiropterans to carnivores, ungulates to pinnipeds, come learn about the major mammal groups and the behaviors and evolution of some of the species currently and previously found here. We shall begin the day with a short lecture on the evolution, physiology, taxonomy and behavior and then we venture out into the field of Pierce Point searching for a few diurnal mammals and tracks and signs left by the nocturnal ones.
