This workshop was co-developed by Lucia Wocial, PhD, RN, Nurse Ethicist with The Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics (FCME) at Indiana University Health and Sandra Petronio, PhD, Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, senior affiliate faculty with FCME, and Core Faculty of the Indiana University Center for Bioethics. Dr. Wocial will review essential communication theory and research as it applies to the process of ethics consultation. Participants will use case examples to practice the application of communication strategies useful in emotionally charged situations.
