The National Telemedia Council's primary focus is publishing The Journal of Media Literacy, which brings together the thinking and experiences of the major pioneers, current practitioners, and future thinkers in media literacy. The Journal of Media Literacy is produced three times a year, and is the only in-depth North American print journal in media education. For the theme of each issue, the editorial board invites an expert guest co-editor and outstanding contributors in their field.

Canadian media educator, Barry Duncan, has described The Journal of Media Literacy as '...filling an important gap in North American media education resources. Currently, there is no publication like it. Historically, it will be seen as providing an invaluable outlet for media educators who are breaking new ground.'

David Considine, director of Appalachian State University's graduate program in Media Literacy adds, '[The Journal of Media Literacy] is an independent and interdisciplinary perspective on media literacy...a respected voice in the movement.'

The Journal reflects the philosophy of NTC, that takes a positive, nonjudgemental approach to media literacy education as a three-pronged process which includes: an understanding of the media, the ability to create/produce media in a variety of ways, and awareness and understanding of the self, including critical viewing, listening and thinking skills.

The National Telemedia Council is an organization of diverse professionals in the field of media literacy. NTC encourages free expression of views on all aspects of media literacy in order to encourage learning and increase growth of understanding of issues in Media Literacy. Any opinions expressed in Telemedium or by individual members of NTC, therefore, do not necessarily represent policies or position of the National Telemedia Council.
