The San Francisco Chapter of the Haas Alumni Network and the Haas School of Business present 'Human Stem Cells: Biotechnology's Next Generation'
Although stem cell research is still at a very early stage, scientists worldwide hope that someday this technology may provide promising treatment and cures for devastating diseases and disabilities including diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson's disease, ALS, and spinal cord injuries.
Over the next ten years, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, created by the passage of Proposition 71, will invest $3 billion from the sale of state bond funds to support embryonic stem cell research in California. This initiative will propel our state into the epicenter of a new generation of scientific innovation in biotechnology that scientists and investors hope will accelerate stem cell research and ensure that the myriad therapeutic possibilities are explored to their fullest, as well as invigorate California's biotech and life sciences industries.
Please join Ed Penhoet, President of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, co-founder of Chiron Corporation and Vice Chair of the Independent Citizen's Oversight Committee of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine and UC Berkeley Professor and co-founder of Tularik (Amgen San Francisco) Robert Tjian to explore the complexities and promise stem cell biology represents to California's biotech and life science industries and how it might contribute to major breakthroughs in human health.
