A top federal legislative priority for organized labor is the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as “card check.” If passed, this bill would make it easier for unions to organize private sector employers and eliminate a worker’s right to a secret ballot election when choosing whether or not to join a union. The Business and Industry Association and U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the National Association of Manufacturers , New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association and the Retail Merchants Association of New Hampshire will host an important and informative discussion around the issues and concerns of card check. The event, titled “Show Us Your Cards: Big Labor’s Power Grab,” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center of New Hampshire in Manchester. Registration will take place from 11:30 am to noon, followed by lunch at noon and the program at 12:30 pm. The luncheon event will feature Steven J. Law, chief legal officer and general counsel for the U.S. Chamber. The cost to attend the luncheon is $30 for BIA and Capitol Connect members and members of the U.S. Chamber, National Association of Manufacturers, NH Lodging & Restaurant Association, and Retail Merchants Association. The fee is $45 for non members.
